“Gambling can have devastating consequences for individuals and families, harming mental health, eroding relationships and losing financial security,” said Rick Wilson, Minister of Mental Health and Addiction, emphasizing that the province is ensuring residents have access to recovery-focused supports.
Future Funding Rounds and Selection Process
Brick House Recovery Centre secured its funding through an open competition held earlier this year by the Alberta government for organizations providing coordinated outpatient and online gambling treatment. Brick House is the first organization to receive an allocation from this competitive process, with additional funding recipients scheduled to be selected late this fall.
Minister Dale Nally noted earlier this summer that establishing a regulated market places player safety and responsibility first while ensuring that operators cover the costs of treatment for those struggling with problematic gambling behaviors.
