Freshman Rep Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez said that she liked some of the Democratic presidential candidates who speak Spanish on Wednesday night, but that the question was going in the “funny language”.
The Bronx Democrat spoke to host Stephen Colbert as an illustration of the “Late Show” soon after the first presidential debate in Miami, where Mr Beto O 'Rourke and Sen Cory Booker spoke in Spanish responding. – and avoiding – questions from moderators NBC.
“I loved it… as a representative of the Bronx – there was a lot of Spanglish in the building,” said Ocasio-Cortez with Colbert.
“I thought it was funny at times,” she said.
She then said in Spanish that she thought some of the candidates were starting to respond: “I won't answer your question.”
“But it was good I thought. It was a good sign that we were a different country, ”she said.
Ocasio-Cortez, who worked with Sen Bernie Sanders's campaign in 2016, did not endorse the 2020 candidate.
