Breaking News: Explosion in Almere‘s John Raedeckerstraat; Third Incident This Week
ALMERE, NETHERLANDS — In a chilling development, another explosion occurred in Almere’s John Raedeckerstraat last night, barely 24 hours after a house in the same street was sealed off by the municipality. This marks the third such incident this week in the Tussen de Vaarten neighborhood.
The explosion took place shortly after midnight, following similar incidents on Tuesday and Wednesday. On Tuesday, a resident sustained minor injuries in the first blast. A day later, an explosive device detonated at the neighbors’ house, prompting Mayor Hein van der Loo to order the evacuation and sealing off of the affected property.
Officials are yet to confirm if the latest explosion targeted the evacuated house. Local residents had earlier hinted at a possible ‘mistake’ leading to Tuesday’s blast, which they claimed resulted in Wednesday’s retaliatory explosion. However, police have not yet commented on these claims or any potential motives.
The Explosives Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team was called in to handle the situation, and an ambulance was also on standby. Fortunately, no injuries were reported following last night’s explosion.
In a startling trend, Flevoland witnessed a total of 86 explosions in 2024, nearly double the number from the previous year, according to data obtained by Omroep Flevoland from the police. The majority of these incidents occurred in Almere. The increasing frequency of such incidents has raised concerns among local authorities and residents alike.
Mayor Van der Loo condemned the "unprecedented brutality" of the perpetrators, and authorities have pledged to step up investigations to bring those responsible to justice and restore calm to the affected neighborhood.
The article will continue to be updated as more information becomes available.
