Franco Colapinto is set to race for Alpine in Formula 1 next year after an official team statement revealed he will drive alongside Pierre Gasly in a retained lineup from the Enstone-based squad. The constructor has locked in the future of the Argentine competitor, who initially signed on as a reserve for 2025 before taking over a race seat beginning with the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix.
Alpine Confirms Unchanged Driver Pairing
Executive Advisor Flavio Briatore emphasized the value of continuity when locking in the team’s roster. “For me, having consistency is very important,” Briatore stated according to the team release, noting that the squad is now settled from a driver perspective. Briatore added that while the driver lineup is a crucial piece of the puzzle, designing and building a fast race car remains the absolute number-one priority for the Enstone outfit.
Colapinto has scored 19 points across six Grands Prix so far this season, working alongside Gasly to help push Alpine to P6 in the Teams’ Championship. Briatore pointed to Colapinto’s performances in Miami and Montreal as concrete proof that the young driver belongs in Formula 1 and at Alpine.

Colapinto Outlines Long-Term Goals
Reflecting on his extension, Colapinto expressed enthusiasm for the trajectory of the team. “I feel very happy and very settled here and it’s been even better that we have made significant progress this year compared to last,” Colapinto said, as quoted by the team. He acknowledged the hard work happening behind the scenes to find performance and improve the car.
Managing Director Steve Nielsen and Briatore both backed the driver’s progression. The announcement arrives just ahead of the Italian Grand Prix weekend at Monza. At the upcoming event, Colapinto is scheduled to receive the upgraded aerodynamic and performance package that Alpine introduced ahead of schedule with Gasly during the previous round in Zandvoort.
