Headline: CJNG Distributes Rosca de Reyes and Toys in Macuspana, Tabasco: A Challenge to Local Authorities?
Article:
In a surprising turn of events, members of the Jalisco Nueva Generación Cartel (CJNG) took to the streets of Macuspana, Tabasco, recently to distribute rosca de reyes and toys to local families. The video footage of this event, dating back to early January 2025, has since made headlines, coinciding with the visit of Tabasco’s governor, Javier May Rodríguez.
In the videos, seen by countless families, representatives of the notorious cartel can be heardsaying, "This gift is from the ‘Señor 88’, we want to support you, we’re here to protect you, this gift is from the ‘Señor’ on behalf of the organization."
José Ramiro López Obrador, brother of Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador and the current Secretary of Government in Tabasco, sees this act as a response to the state’s security strategies implemented by May Rodríguez’s administration. He expressed, "The National Guard and Security Forces are already in place and working on this issue. We’re tightening the screws on the criminal element."
The distribution of rosca de reyes took place in the El Castaño neighborhood, near the municipal palace of Macuspana. Notably, this neighborhood is not far from the site of a narcomanta incident in June 2024, where the ‘Señor 88’ – alleged CJNG leader in Tabasco – claimed the plaza and threatened local vendors.
As authorities continue to investigate this brazen display of cartel influence, residents and officials alike remain vigilant, knowing that the fight against organized crime is far from over.
