Argentina Secures Philippines‘ Nod for Chicken, Pork, and Beef Exports

Buenos Aires, Argentina — The national government has successfully secured approval from the Philippines to export chicken, pork, and additional beef products. This achievement, a result of collaborative effort by the Secretary of Agriculture, Livestock, and Fisheries (SALF) and the National Feed, Food, and Health Service (SENASA), paves the way for increased agricultural exports and strengthens Argentina’s presence in the global market.

The new agreement, facilitated by the Ministry of Economy and the Argentine Embassy in Manila, includes the recognition of Argentina’s control and certification system. This means that Filipino authorities will begin evaluating Argentina’s veterinary certifications within 15 days, setting the stage for official market opening and subsequent exports.

"The equivalency between our control systems makes it easier to certify new Argentine establishments interested in shipping their meat products to the Philippines," said a spokesperson from SALF. This breakthrough is the culmination of intensive negotiations throughout the year, involving a coordinated effort from the Ministry of Economy, SENASA, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Argentine Embassy in Manila.

To reach this milestone, Argentina hosted two delegations from the Philippines this year, which inspected and validated SENASA’s control system for beef, pork, and chicken production. In 2023, the Philippines imported around USD 1.75 billion worth of meat and by-products, reflecting a 17% increase in imports between January and October compared to 2022. With this new market access, Argentina is well-positioned to capitalize on the growing demand for meat products in the Philippines.
