Piumato expressed his support for Judge Ariel Lijo’s nomination to the Supreme Court, despite his preference for a female candidate to replace Elena Highton de Nolasco. He praised Lijo’s integrity and idoneity, dismissing criticisms against the judge as "press operations."
"Lijo is an excellent man and has done great work with us in the union," Piumato said. "He is a person of prestige, and I believe he is the person the Justice needs."
Cristina Kirchner‘s Role in Politics
Piumato was critical of former President Cristina Kirchner’s role in the political scene, suggesting that her actions favor the ruling party. He encouraged her to step back from the limelight and cease her "fuego amigo" attacks on Governor Axel Kicillof.
"Cristina has to understand that she’s in a different role now," Piumato said. "She should be working for the common good, not against it."
Milei’s Presidency
Piumato acknowledged Javier Milei‘s popular mandate but expressed concerns about the president’s policies. He cautioned that the current "spring macroeconomic" situation could lead to trouble, citing historical precedents in Argentina.
"This strategy of a fixed dollar has always ended badly in Argentina," Piumato warned. "We’re in a worrying situation, with a society that’s already been squeezed."
CGT’s Role
Piumato defended the CGT’s cautious approach, explaining that the union is acting with prudence and observing the situation. He expressed concern about the potential backlash from a poorly timed strike, which could benefit the government.
"CGT is not silent; it’s acting with caution," Piumato said. "There’s no strong social demand for a strike yet."
The reopening of Paxapoga served as a backdrop for these political discussions, highlighting the intersection of power, friendship, and local history in Pinamar.
