Arlo Dean Neumiller, 86, of Fargo, North Dakota, passed away at the HIA Heather’s House in Fargo on March 10, 2026.

A Life Dedicated to Family and Dentistry

Born February 6, 1940, in Fargo, Arlo was raised by his grandparents, Christ and Mathilda Neumiller, in Sykeston, North Dakota. He graduated from Sykeston school in 1958 and subsequently served in the Army from November 1958 to October 1960.

Arlo pursued higher education at NDSU, studying Biology and Chemistry, before attending Marquette Dental School in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, after marrying Sonja Skadberg in 1962. He and Sonja welcomed their son, Joel, in 1967. Following his graduation, the family relocated to Cooperstown, North Dakota, in 1969, where Arlo established a dental practice.

In 1970, the family grew with the arrival of their daughter, Tanya. Arlo and Sonja later divorced in 1992. He continued to practice dentistry, first working for another dentist and then opening his own practice, Agassiz Dental, in Fargo. For many years, Arlo maintained practices in both Cooperstown and Fargo before retiring on March 29, 2013.

Hobbies and Legacy

Arlo’s interests extended beyond dentistry. He enjoyed golfing, gardening—cultivating a wildflower garden in Cooperstown—woodworking, flying, fishing, photography and building model airplanes. In recent years, he built over 20 model airplanes and flew remote-controlled planes at his cabin on Two Inlets Lake in Minnesota, a property purchased with his daughter Tanya’s family in 2006.

He was known for his humor and is remembered fondly by his family for his advice, love, and laughter. Arlo was preceded in death by his mother, Lydia Mise.

A service and celebration of Arlo’s life will be held Saturday, March 21st, 2026, at Evans Funeral Home in Carrington, ND, at 1:00 pm. A burial at the Carrington Cemetery and a gathering for both Joel and Tanya’s parents—Arlo and Sonja Shannon—will be held in Carrington on Friday, June 19th.
