The Veracruz State Prosecutor’s Office (FGE) yesterday detained Jasmín "N," the woman who, in a fit of rage, hurled a pot of scalding oil at a food vendor on December 29, an act caught on security cameras and widely condemned on social media.
FGE officials reported that Jasmín "N" was arrested while they were conducting investigative actions in the Reserva Tarimoya Cuatro neighborhood in the city of Veracruz. The police ministerial elements apprehended her for acts that could potentially constitute a crime.
Witnesses on social media reported that the dispute started at "Antojitos Rinconada" restaurant in Xalapa, after Jasmín "N" demanded to split the bill with her companions. When the restaurant staff refused, she allegedly grabbed the pot of hot oil and threw it at one of the cooks, causing severe burns.
The viral video of the incident led to the identification and arrest of Jasmín "N" in Veracruz, where she was presumed to have fled from Xalapa to evade justice.
The victim’s daughter disclosed that the attack resulted in second-degree burns on her left arm and lesser burns on her feet. After receiving medical treatment, she was released on the same day, with medical expenses totaling 9,000 pesos.
The FGE has not yet revealed any further details about the legal process against Jasmín "N."
