A 27-year-old woman was allegedly targeted in an attempted kidnapping in Sydney’s west yesterday, an incident that was ultimately disrupted by the intervention of bystanders. The encounter occurred on Browne Parade in Warwick Farm, near Liverpool, and resulted in the arrest of two men.
Details of the Alleged Attack
Police allege that the incident began when one of the suspects assaulted the woman on the side of the road. The man reportedly threatened her with a knife and attempted to drag her toward a white Kia SUV, while a second man waited inside the vehicle.
The planned abduction was aborted when members of the public intervened, forcing the two men to flee the scene in the car. While the woman sustained injuries to her face and leg, authorities confirmed she did not receive any wounds from the knife allegedly held by the suspect.
“The actions of the members of the public should be commended,” Acting Inspector Andrew Sweeney said. “Their bravery and involvement in the incident potentially prevented the incident from escalating further.”
Police Investigation and Legal Proceedings
Following the incident, police arrested a 22-year-old on the riverbank of Duck Creek in Auburn and a 24-year-old on West Street in Auburn. Both men were taken to Granville Police Station and charged with robbery armed with an offensive weapon, aggravated robbery, and the use of corporal violence.

Both suspects have been refused bail and are expected to appear in court today. Acting Inspector Andrew Sweeney noted that while some of the woman’s items were stolen during the attack, they have since been recovered. Police stated they do not believe the incident is linked to organized crime.
The investigation may continue to focus on whether the suspects slashed the woman’s tyres to force her to stop on the side of the road. Moving forward, the legal proceedings for the two men will likely proceed in court following their refusal of bail.
