PlasticShreds focuses on collecting single-use plastics from guests and visitors at a dedicated beachfront collection point. These discarded materials are then transformed into durable, eco-friendly products like gravel, building blocks, and home décor, demonstrating a circular economy approach to waste management.
The Scale of the Problem in Bali
The initiative comes as Bali faces a significant plastic pollution challenge. According to data from 2021, approximately 480,000 tons of single-use plastic waste are produced on the island each year, threatening marine biodiversity, tourism, and local livelihoods.
