Bahía Blanca: City Launches Committee for 2028 Bicentennial Celebration

by Chief Editor

The Municipality of Bahía Blanca established the Bicentennial Cabinet this Friday, a space comprised of representatives from the opposition, business leaders, union representatives, university rectors, members of the Justice system, religious leaders, and other prominent figures. The Cabinet will be responsible for charting a course for the celebration of the city’s 200th founding anniversary in 2028.

Planning for the Future

Intendente Federico Susbielles, who led the event, stated, “The city is at a moment that demands we work with breadth, with generosity, seeking the participation of all actors and understanding that there is an essential responsibility in the situation that Bahía Blanca is experiencing, having overcome two catastrophes and now looking to the future with optimism.”

Susbielles indicated the Bicentennial Cabinet’s primary objectives are divided into two lines of work: commemorating the 200th anniversary and long-term strategic planning regarding areas of city life, including production and employment, human development, education and science, and security and justice.

Did You Understand? Bahía Blanca was once considered one of the 10 most important cities in Argentina and a key driver of the country’s growth during the centennial generation.

Susbielles noted that Bahía Blanca has, in recent decades, lost some of its central position, in part due to a lack of a common agenda for unified work to regain its former prominence.

“Bahía is a city of dialogue, of consensus, and has great leadership, but we will only achieve success if we work together,” Susbielles stated.

Cabinet Structure

The Bicentennial Cabinet will operate through technical working tables with periodic meetings, aiming to transform initial guidelines into concrete projects and state policies. The Cabinet’s composition includes:

  • Municipal Officials
  • Presidenta del Honorable Concejo Deliberante, Gisela Caputo
  • Presidente del Consorcio de Gestión del Puerto, Santiago Mandolesi Burgos
