Drunken Driver Leads Police on Chase in Southern Norway
A high-speed pursuit ensued on Saturday night in Southern Norway after a driver attempted to evade a sobriety checkpoint, leading police on a 15-20 kilometer chase from Kristiansand to Vennesla.
The incident began when a driver refused to pull over for a routine alcohol control at Kjevik in Kristiansand, according to Operations Leader Frode Vang. Police subsequently pursued the vehicle, which headed north towards Birkeland and Oggevatn before being stopped at Svaland, near Vennesla.
"The chase was relatively uneventful," Vang told VG. "The road conditions were icy, so both vehicles maintained a low speed. The suspect vehicle also adhered to traffic rules throughout the pursuit."
Two other patrol cars joined the chase, cornering the suspect vehicle at an intersection. Vang confirmed that the driver, a man in his 20s, and a passenger were detained without incident. Both individuals are now being tested for alcohol and other substances at a local hospital.
No injuries or vehicle damages were reported during the chase. The Kristeiansand police would like to remind civilians that driving under the influence is a serious offense with severe consequences. If you have any information regarding this or similar incidents, contact us at VG’s Tips Line.
