Bali Launches Free Electric Bus Service on Trans Sarbagita Route

The Bali Provincial Government launched a free electric bus public transport service on the Trans Sarbagita Corridor I route on Monday, November 9, 2026.

Head of the Bali Transportation Office I Kadek Mudarta said in Denpasar on Sunday that passengers can access the bus service for free during the trial period. He noted that travelers must still tap an e-money card to track passenger numbers. Passengers without an electronic card can still use the service, as staff on board will provide payment cards for use.

Perum DAMRI manages the electric bus route

State-owned transport company Perum DAMRI manages the operation of the eco-friendly electric buses through its Denpasar branch, acting as the official operator under the supervision of the Bali Transportation Office. Prospective passengers can board and alight at designated stops along the route.

The service primarily mirrors the established Trans Sarbagita Corridor I pathway, linking the Ngurah Rai Sports Hall (GOR Ngurah Rai) to the Garuda Wisnu Kencana (GWK) Cultural Park with minor route modifications.

Departing from GOR Ngurah Rai, the buses travel along Jalan Melati, turn left onto Jalan Hayam Wuruk, and continue toward the Renon Roundabout. The buses make their way through the administrative center of the government by way of Jalan Sudirman and Jalan Raya Puputan before rejoining the standard Trans Sarbagita line.

When traveling in the opposite direction from GWK back to GOR Ngurah Rai, the buses detour through the Renon sector via Jalan Cok Agung Tresna, Jalan Moh Yamin, Jalan Raya Puputan, Jalan Hayam Wuruk, Jalan Kamboja, Jalan Angsoka, and Jalan Melati, eventually finishing the trip on Jalan Pattimura.

Eleven electric buses undergo full-scale trials

Mudarta reported that the fleet of 11 electric buses belonging to the Bali Provincial Government will be subjected to comprehensive testing through the conclusion of 2026. Ten buses remain in daily operation, while one serves as a rotating reserve. Prior to making their official debut on Balinese streets, the 11 electric buses were officially unveiled this past October in Denpasar.

“We invite the public to try this electric bus service as a safe, comfortable, inclusive, affordable, and zero-emission mobility option,” Mudarta said. The Bali Transportation Office is optimistic that the environmentally friendly transit option will persuade residents and visitors to adopt public transport as their main method of commuting across the Island of the Gods.
