Winter’s Grasp Tightens: Bulgaria Braces for Further Cold and Snow After Holiday Storms

Article:

Bociated with the Christmas holidays, a surge of rain and snow has swept across Bulgaria, and meteorologists at "Meteo Balkans" predict that the cold snap is far from over. In the coming hours, a strengthening anticyclone from the northeast will bring more comparatively chilly air, driving temperatures downwards.

Over Eastern Bulgaria, winds will remain moderate from the northeast, whereas the rest of the country can expect calm conditions. While precipitation is set to decrease, snowfall is expected to persist in the Central Pre-Balkans and Northeastern Bulgaria until December 27.

Minimum temperatures are forecast to drop further, plummeting to as low as -15°C (5°F) in some valley areas by December 27. Maximum temperatures will also dip, hovering around the freezing point.

As we welcome the New Year, Bulgarians can expect dry but cold conditions. Daily temperatures in Central Bulgaria and the Sofia region will hover around 0°C (32°F), while the Danube Plain will see slightly warmer days, ranging from 5-10°C (41-50°F). However, many low-lying areas in the Danube Plain may experience minimum temperatures dipping below -10°C (14°F).

The New Year brings hope for gradually rising temperatures, but for now, Bulgaria remains in the icy grip of winter.
