The Belarusian Betera-Vysheyshaya Liga is facing internal discord over a recent decision to increase the limit on foreign players allowed on the field during matches. Nikolai Vaityukhovsky, director of FC Vitebsk, has publicly voiced strong opposition, stating that 15 out of 16 clubs in the league opposed the change.
“Our club, that is, me and Sergei Gurenko, were against increasing the limit. Before the decision was made by the BFF Executive Committee, this issue was discussed at the Club Council, and 15 out of 16 clubs were against it. It seems our opinion doesn’t matter to anyone,” Vaityukhovsky stated, according to the club’s Telegram channel.
The modern rule, effective for the 2026 season, permits clubs to field up to five foreign players simultaneously. This decision has sparked controversy, with many club officials questioning the rationale behind it.
