Headline: Yellow Alert Issued for Hordaland: Between 5 to 15cm of Snow Expected This Weekend
Subhead: Prepare for slippery roads and potential hazards as wet, heavy snow arrives
The Meteorological Institute has issued a yellow alert for the outer regions of Hordaland on Sunday morning. Expect between 5 to 15cm of snow throughout the day.
This alert, valid from 10 AM to 11 PM on Sunday, warns of potential challenges, and emergency services are urged to stay vigilant. "Prepare for snow buildup on roads and potential closures," advises duty meteorologist Geir Ottar Fagerlid.
Wet, Heavy Snow Expected
Temperatures are icy at dawn, with minus 8.8°C recorded at Florida. As the day progresses, temperatures will rise towards zero. Snow will fall steadily from 10 AM, contrary to the light, powdery snow experienced earlier this week.
The incoming snow is expected to be wet and cohesive, turning salted roads into slush and causing slippery conditions where no salt has been applied. "Drivers should exercise caution and allocate extra time for travel," warns Fagerlid.
Prepare for Slippery Conditions
Driving in the snow will be challenging, with reduced grip and potentially longer journey times. Some routes may be hazardous, so exercise care and patience.
Protect Fragile Items
The wet snow will also compress existing snow cover, risking damage to items that can’t withstand the weight. Secure vulnerable objects, such as weak branches that could snap under the snow load. "Check your boat and other belongings that might not withstand the snow," advises the meteorologist.
Stay Alert
While much of the snow from earlier in the week is unbroken, the incoming wet snow could exacerbate problems. "This snow could cause issues, especially given the existing snow cover," concludes Fagerlid. Stay informed and prepared as the snow continues to fall.
