Bolivia Sees Rise in COVID-19 Cases; Government Urges Vaccination, Announces Dose Arrival
Bolivia has witnessed a surge in COVID-19 cases, with 457 new infections reported during the first week of 2025. As the virus continues to circulate, health authorities have urged citizens, particularly those in high-risk groups, to get vaccinated annually.
The Ministry of Health assures that sufficient doses of the COVID-19 vaccine are available and has announced the impending arrival of an additional 500,000 doses. This reinforcement of the country’s vaccination drive comes in response to the recent increase in cases.
"Vaccines remain our key defense against COVID-19," said a spokesperson for the Ministry. "We urge everyone, especially senior citizens and those with underlying health conditions, to get vaccinated to protect both themselves and those around them."
Government officials have also emphasized the importance of completing the full vaccination schedule and staying up-to-date with booster shots. They have expressed confidence that with high vaccination rates and continued adherence to public health measures, Bolivia can successfully manage the ongoing pandemic.
Meanwhile, the government has been working closely with international partners to secure vaccine supplies. The anticipated arrival of half a million doses marks a significant step in maintaining and boosting the nation’s immunization efforts.
With the virus still present and vaccine efficacy dependent on receiving timely boosters, health authorities remind the public to remain vigilant and follow preventive measures, including frequent hand washing, wearing face masks, and practicing physical distancing.
