Boxers Baseball Sweeps Willamette in Conference Opener
Pacific University’s baseball team kicked off conference play with a dominant weekend, securing 10-1 and 6-2 victories over Willamette University on Saturday. Strong pitching and timely hitting propelled the Boxers to a 2-0 start in Northwest Conference action.
Saelens Shines in Game One
Sophomore Nicholas Saelens delivered a stellar performance in the first game, pitching a complete nine innings. He allowed only one run on seven hits although striking out six, earning the win. The Boxers capitalized on seven Willamette errors to build their lead.
Will Shelor and Javin Hamura both contributed key runs in the early innings. Shelor tied the game at 1-1 in the first, scoring on a sacrifice fly by Hamura. Hamura added another RBI with a sacrifice fly in the third, scoring Nathaniel Chapman to give Pacific a 2-1 advantage. A six-run seventh inning sealed the victory.
Hamura finished the game 1-for-3 with four RBIs, and Trevor Kazahaya launched his second home run of the season in the sixth.
Aufranc Earns First Win in Game Two
Senior Governor Aufranc impressed in the second game, holding Willamette to two runs on seven hits over 7 1/3 innings to secure his first win of the season. Pacific’s offense chipped away at the Bearcats, scoring runs in the third, fifth, and seventh innings.
Hunter Nishina had a standout performance at the plate, going 3-for-3 with two stolen bases and scoring two runs. Hamura continued his productive day, finishing 2-for-3 with three RBIs.
