Prepare for a stormy Christmas Eve in Western Norway, as a powerful low-pressure system is set to hit the region. Bente Wahl, duty meteorologist at Vêrvarslinga on Vestlandet, warns that while the day before Christmas Eve will be calm and may even see some sunshine, the holiday itself will be anything but peaceful.

"It’s going to be a windy day, with southward strong gales expected and coastal areas bracing for a small storm," Wahl says. Although snow might greet you in the morning, it’s unlikely to settle, as temperatures are set to rise steadily throughout the day.

Expected rainfall for Christmas Eve ranges from 31mm in Førde to 48mm in Sande, with Naustdal potentially receiving 38mm on the first day of Christmas. Nonetheless, there’s no immediate cause for alarm, despite the wet conditions.

"The weather will be quite wet, but it’s just below the level of a weather warning. However, that could change," Wahl adds.

Meanwhile, the sudden temperature drop could create challenging road conditions. Wahl advises caution for drivers and encourages consideration for pedestrian safety, suggesting, "Use your car lights on the way to church."

While the weather may dampen spirits, it won’t dampen the festive cheer in the hearts of locals. So, bundle up, stay safe, and enjoy the holidays, rain or shine!
