Surabaya‘s New Tunnel Connects Terminal Intermoda Joyoboyo and Kebun Binatang Surabaya
The much-awaited Tunnel TIJ-KBS, linking Terminal Intermoda Joyoboyo (TIJ) and Kebun Binatang Surabaya (KBS), officially opened today, Monday, December 23, 2024. The city’s mayor, Eri Cahyadi, inaugurated the tunnel amidst excitement from locals and tourists alike.
Eri announced that the ticket price for KBS will remain unchanged despite the impressive video mapping displays adorning nearly the entire length of the tunnel. "Visitors can park at TIJ and enter KBS directly through the tunnel," he explained. "Inside, they’ll experience an immersive KBS environment, with video mapping and sounds of animals."
In an effort to boost local revenue, Eri revealed plans to offer special discounts for Surabaya residents. "We aim to increase PAD (Local Revenue), but we will ensure that Surabaya residents are treated differently," he added.
To manage anticipated crowds during the upcoming Christmas and New Year holidays, Eri has instructed KBS management and police to regulate traffic and prevent overcrowding. He targets over one million visitors during this period, a 10% increase from the previous year.
Previously, construction on the Tunnel TIJ-KBS began on June 15, 2024, with a budget of Rp31 billion.
