BruineMehdi brings unfiltered complaints to the quiz stage
BruineMehdi traded his usual online platform for the harsh lights of television on October 29, 2026. Making his debut on De Slimste Mens ter Wereld, the Aalst native brought the signature comedic complaints that earned him a “Yapping Jamie” award at the 2026 Jamies.
Instead of playing it safe, he immediately clashed with fellow contestants over culinary preferences. He dismissed sushi as a “cold dish with pretension” and sparked an intense debate over his aversion to cheese.
A fiery debate over cheese and social norms
The culinary clash erupted when Lynn Van den Broeck mentioned she frequently orders cheese for dessert. Mehdi answered with an adamant refusal, calling cheese “the most disgusting thing there is.”
He revealed he avoids cheese altogether. Jurors Alex Agnew and Steven Van Herreweghe watched the exchange closely.

Mehdi’s critiques stretched far beyond the dinner table. He attacked modern marathons, dismissing them as events defined entirely by participants who cannot stop talking about them. He also took aim at society’s growing dog-friendliness, clarifying that while he does not dislike dogs, he objects to their presence in restaurants.
Wardrobe mishaps and survival in the final round
Beneath the debates, actual competition unfolded. Amber Piddington dominated the evening, securing victory with 441 seconds in what marked her fourteenth appearance on the program.
Mehdi finished with 409 seconds, forcing him into a tense final round against Van den Broeck. Van den Broeck ended the game with 271 seconds and was ultimately eliminated.
Humor occasionally broke through the tension. Both Van den Broeck and juror Alex Agnew found themselves briefly confused over whether her footwear was a boot or a sandal. Van den Broeck also confessed to a minor wardrobe mishap, revealing she had accidentally left a security tag attached to her clothing—a predicament that drew lighthearted empathy from Mehdi.
From TikTok commentary to television screens
Mehdi built his initial following on TikTok and Instagram through informal, comedic “yapping” videos delivering unfiltered commentary on everyday life. That specific style of content creation culminated in his Yapping Jamie award in February 2026.
Following the broadcast, the show announced that Bert Bultinck will join the game as the incoming participant for the next broadcast.
The open question of Mehdi’s quiz future
Though Mehdi put up a solid performance by finishing with 409 seconds, the rigorous format of the show demands that contestants either win outright or survive the final showdown to secure their spot on the next episode.
