Title: Bulgaria Allocates Additional €20.4 Million for F-16 Fighter Jet Acquisition in 2024
In a move aimed at bolstering the nation’s defense capabilities, the Bulgarian government has earmarked an additional BGN 38 million (€20.4 million) for the Ministry of Defense in 2024. This funding, approved by the Ministry of Council (MS), is designated to cover accompanying expenses in the acquisition of the new combat aircraft, F-16s.
The first phase of these expenses encompasses transportation, DDS, customs duties, and other costs pertinent to the execution of international agreements. This investment forms part of Bulgaria’s commitment to enhance its defensive prowess, counter potential threats, and uphold its alliance obligations in the complex global security landscape.
The funding announcement comes on the heels of a previous decision by the parliamentary committee on defense, which approved the acquisition of a second batch of F-16 fighter jets.
"The procurement of additional F-16s will significantly augment our armed forces’ capabilities in deterrence, prevention, and response to potential threats," the Ministry of Council reiterated, without explicitly mentioning the F-16 model.
This strategic move aligns with Bulgaria’s overarching defense strategy, which seeks to modernize its military and strengthen its alliance with NATO. The procurement of F-16s,bine will not only enhance Bulgaria’s air defense capabilities but also underscore its commitment to regional security and NATO solidarity.
