TasikmalayaPolice Net Densus 88 Antiteror Captures Possible Terrorist in Tasikmalaya; Locals Unfamiliar with Suspect
Tasikmalaya, Indonesia – In a pre-dawn operation on Friday, December 27, 2024, Indonesia’s elite counter-terrorism unit, Densus 88, detained a man suspected of terrorism in the remote village of Jayaratu, Sariwangi sub-district, Tasikmalaya Regency, West Java.
The suspect was apprehended while at a local resident’s home in Kampung Urug. Villagers expressed shock at the news, claiming they had no idea of his true identity or intentions. "He’s not from here. He was just visiting one of our villagers," revealed Rudi Kusmayadi, the village head.
Rudi confirmed that the suspect had been staying with a local resident but didn’t disclose how long he had been there. "Our villager intended to send him to the bus terminal today, but Densus 88 intervened and apprehended him," Rudi told detikJabar.
The apprehension was carried out by Densus 88 in coordination with local police. Tasikmalaya’s Chief of Police, AKBP Haris Dinzah, confirmed the operation: "It’s true that earlier this morning, around 8:00 AM to 8:30 AM WIB, there was an activity by the Densus 88 Anti-Terror Squad at our area."
The suspect is now in custody, and investigations are ongoing. Authorities have not yet released his name or any details about his alleged involvement in terrorist activities.
