A man intentionally crashed a car into the Shrewsbury, Massachusetts, police station on Monday, according to Shrewsbury Police Chief Kevin Anderson.
Details of the Incident
The incident occurred just after 2 p.m. when a 2022 BMW SUV drove through the building’s lobby and into the dispatch center. Despite the vehicle penetrating a significant portion of the station – bypassing pylons intended to prevent vehicle impacts and breaching two doors – no one inside the station was injured.
“We actually put two pylons out there to prevent people from hitting the building,” Chief Anderson said. “Went through that, went through the front door, actually two doors, went through the lobby and then went through the wall of the dispatch center.”
The driver, who sustained injuries in the crash, was taken into custody and transported to a nearby hospital. The Worcester County District Attorney’s office is currently reviewing potential charges, and the driver is scheduled to be arraigned in Westboro District Court on Tuesday.
Ongoing Investigation
Police have surveillance video of the crash and are investigating the speed of the vehicle. The motive behind the intentional crash remains unknown at this time. A Shrewsbury resident, Tyler O’Keefe, described the scene as “insane,” stating, “You just see two red blinking lights on a car that’s like tilted over through the front door of the police station. I’ve never seen anything like it.”
The police station building is currently closed. Individuals needing to file a police report are advised to call 508-845-1212 for non-emergencies or 911 in emergency situations.
