Headline: "National Cardiology Hospital: New Director Faces Resistance to Reform"

The National Cardiology Hospital (NKB) finds itself in a transitional phase, with the arrival of its new director, Dr. Krasimir Dzhinsov, marked by resistance from some staff members. In an exclusive interview with FАКТI, Dr. Dzhinsov discusses the hospital’s financial struggles, his vision for reform, and the challenges he faces.

Financial Struggles and Urgent Need for Reform

Dr. Dzhinsov inherited a dire financial situation at the NKB. The hospital carries a 10 million leva debt, incurs losses, and has been depleted of capital. "If we don’t make changes, we’re looking at the possible closure of this institution with a rich history and expertise in cardiac care," he warns. To turn the tide, Dr. Dzhinsov proposes restructuring and introducing new activities.

Resistance to Change

Two open letters signed by anonymous hospital staff have been circulated, expressing opposition to the proposed changes. Dr. Dzhinsov, however, insists that no official decisions have been made yet. He emphasizes the need for dialogue and constructive ideas, rather than speculation in the public domain.

Transparency and Communication

"It’s crucial for us to discuss and outline a working concept that will increase our capacity, improve patient care, and boost revenues," explains Dr. Dzhinsov. He regrets that, instead of face-to-face discussions, some staff choose to communicate through open letters and media interviews.

Staff Worries and Uncertainty

Concerns linger among hospital staff about the unanticipated nature of these changes. Dr. Dzhinsov, however, counters that they have been discussing these matters with department heads since his first month in office. Moreover, the hospital has recently secured significant investment projects and improved certain services.

Staffing Challenges and Strategic Planning

The hospital, like many health care facilities in Bulgaria, struggles with staff shortages. Dr. Dzhinsov efforts to rectify this include reaching out to universities, boosting salaries, and encouraging internal communication to fill vacancies. He is optimistic that strategic planning will help address these challenges and improve the hospital’s financial health.
