Early Detection of Cervical Cancer: A Simple Swab Could Save Lives

Cervical cancer, along with its early stages, can now be detected with ease through a routine test. This test involves a simple swab, and if caught early, the disease can often be prevented from developing with straightforward treatment.

Who is Eligible and How?

Women Aged 25 to 29:

  • You will receive an invitation every three years from the Cancer Screening Centre via My eBox or post to make an appointment with your GP or gynaecologist for a cervical cancer screening.
  • On a day when you’re feeling well, visit your GP or gynaecologist, who will perform a painless swab test.
  • Your sample will be sent to the lab for analysis, initially checking for abnormal cells.
  • Discuss with your healthcare provider how and when you will receive your results.

Women Aged 30 to 64:

  • You will receive an invitation every five years from the Cancer Screening Centre via My eBox or post, following the same procedure as above.
  • From January 1, 2025, onwards, your sample will first be tested for the presence of high-risk HPV, a common cause of cervical cancer.
  • If this is your first screening after January 1, 2025, make sure to have your test once more three years after the previous one.
