Charity Grants £100k to Improve Children’s Mental Health

Approximately 200 children lose their lives to suicide every year in England, while figures show that more than 75,490 children aged six to 17 attended A&E with mental health concerns in 2025—marking a 36 per cent increase since 2019. To counter this rising crisis, the organization is launching the 100K Your Way Challenge on October 10 for World Mental Health Day, encouraging participants to cover 100 kilometers over 10 days through walking, running, cycling, swimming, or dancing.

According to Sport in Mind, the initiative aims to fund free sport and physical activity programmes delivered in partnership with the NHS. The charity reports that it has supported more than 60,000 people to date, with 94 per cent of participants reporting improved mental wellbeing.

Addressing the Youth Mental Health Crisis Before Crisis Point

Figures show an escalating demand for urgent care, with A&E mental health attendances among children aged six to 17 climbing by 36 per cent since 2019 to reach 75,490 cases in 2025. Founder and CEO Neil Harris stated, according to the charity’s announcement, “We cannot wait until a child reaches crisis point before we decide they need support.” Harris added that joining a football session, running, learning a new skill, or finding a safe space to belong can serve as a vital first step toward social connection.
