Chemical Spill on Raya Purwakarta-Padalarang: Hundreds of Vehicles Affected, Motorists Demand Compensation
Article:
Bandung Barat, Dec 24 (Sud) – A chemical spill on the Raya Purwakarta-Padalarang road in Bandung Barat regency today morning caused chaos, damaging vehicles and affecting motorists’ health. The spill, which occurred near Cikalongweten, led to a halt in traffic as hundreds of motorcycles and cars were caught in the crossfire.
The Korps Satu (Sat) Lantas perbekalan Polres Cimahi Unit revealed that the spill was from a 20-ton tanker truck with the license plate D 9475 AF, owned by a chemical distribution company. The truck driver, Wawan Gunawan from Karawang, was en route to Padalarang when the tanker sprang a leak, causing the chemical to spill onto the road.
"The chemical then splashed from one vehicle to another, affecting more than 100 motorcycles and cars behind the truck," said AKP Kusmawan, the Padalarang Police Chief. A concerned motorist eventually flagged down the truck in Kampung Cikamuning, near the toll gate, and alerted the driver about the leak.
Motorists reported irritated eyes and itchy skin due to the acidic chemical, which also caused corrosion on their vehicles. Consequently, hundreds of affected motorists have thronged the Gakkum office at the Cimahi City Police Headquarters to file claims for compensation with the company.
