Title: HMPV Surge in China: Indonesian Health Ministry Urges Public Vigilance

The Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) is currently spreading in China, sparking a call for vigilance from Indonesia‘s Ministry of Health (Kemenkes). Juru Bicara Kemenkes RI Widyawati has shared preventive measures to help the public stay alert.

HMPV is a common virus that typically causes mild respiratory symptoms, but it can be severe in young children, older adults, and those with weakened immune systems. While there have been no reported cases of HMPV in Indonesia thus far, the ministry encourages the public to maintain a healthy lifestyle, wash hands regularly, and wear masks in public places to reduce the risk of infections.

Widyawati stated, "Currently, there are no reports of HMPV cases in Indonesia. However, we urge the public to maintain their health by practicing clean habits and healthy lifestyles. This is crucial to boost one’s immune system and prevent the spread of potential health threats."

The government continues to monitor the outbreak in China and other countries. As a precaution, it has bolstered surveillance at entry points, including health screenings for international travelers showing symptoms of Influenza Like Illness (ILI).

"We will continue to coordinate with relevant parties to ensure effective preventive measures. Our goal is to prevent the virus from entering Indonesia," Widyawati added.
