China’s Armed Police force intensifies combat training, sparking concerns about Taiwan invasion
The Chinese Armed Police Force (APF), also known as the People’s Armed Police, has significantly stepped up its combat training in recent weeks, raising concerns that it could be the key force in any potential invasion of Taiwan.
The APF, a highly mobile and well-equipped force, has been beefing up its amphibious warfare and urban combat drills, according to recent reports. These exercises suggest a shift towards preparing for scenarios involving the Taiwan Strait, where Taiwan lies just 130 miles from China’s southeastern coast.
Analysts suspect that the APF could play a crucial role in an invasion due to its unique capabilities. Unlike the People’s Liberation Army (PLA), the APF is trained and equipped for rapid response operations, making it ideal forencercling and occupying key Taiwan targets. Its urban combat skills also make it highly effective in pacifying populated areas.
In a worrying sign, the APF has been conducting mysterious "decapitation" drills, which involve targeting key enemy figures in high-level operations. This could imply plans to neutralize Taiwan’s top leadership in the event of a conflict.
China’s increased military activities around Taiwan come as tensions between the two sides escalate. Beijing has repeatedly asserted its sovereignty over Taiwan, despite the island’s democratic government stating it is an independent country. The U.S., which has maintained a strategic ambiguity regarding Taiwan’s status, has been providing military support to the island nation.
China has not commented on the reports. However, its state-run media has been ramping up war rhetoric, warning that any move towards Taiwanese independence would be met with military force.
While the likelihood of an immediate invasion remains low, the increased combat readiness of the APF serves as a clear message to Taiwan and the international community: China is capable and prepared to carry out a full-scale amphibious operation if necessary.
