Bulgarian Politics in Turmoil: Government Formation Uncertainty Persists

In a crucial twist in Bulgarian politics, the nation braces for a clarification on its government formation, with the most recent update being that a decision should be made no later than next week. This information was disclosed by Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, Dрагомир Стойнев, following a meeting with coalition " Support". According to Стойнев, the absence of a government makes the situation very difficult.

The ongoing negotiations have also seen comments from БСП (Bulgarian Socialist Party) Chairman Aтанас Зафиров, who asserted that the current days and tomorrow are of significant importance. БСП, he noted, is ready to enter the government, having made necessary compromises to achieve a stable majority. ГЕРБ (Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria), however, has maintained silence since resuming talks with БСП-Обедилена левица and "Има такъв народ" last week.

Борисов, ГЕРБ’s leader, has notably skipped his regular morning media appearances in parliament, sparking whispers of a ‘Plan B‘ – a minority government led by Росен Желязков, potentially backed by МЕЧ, АСП, or the DPS wing loyal to honorary chairman Ахмед Доган.

Atanas Зафиров expressed hope that Bulgaria will have a regular government by next week, though he acknowledged the challenge of governing with parties of differing programs. He also voiced hope that the cabinet of ГЕРБ, ИТН, and БСП would receive the necessary tolerance from society.

In other developments, БСП met with representatives of the Coalition "Support" to discuss the most pressing issues in society and potential solutions. The meeting was attended by National Assembly Chairperson Наталия Киселова. According to Борислав Гуцанов from "Support", the country is currently facing a tough period, with next year expected to be challenging in all aspects.

Гуцанов stressed the importance of trade unions, asserting that "things cannot happen without them." Димитър Манолов, president of "Support", тоже expressed concern about the state of the country, emphasizing the need to end the ongoing crisis. He insisted that urgent actions must be taken, and that the country cannot survive without its coal industry, a stance that the unions and the left have emphasized. The key issues highlighted include energy poverty, water and transport infrastructure deficiencies, with Стойнев stating that the main issue is the lack of a governing coalition.

As the political drama unfolds, Bulgaria eagerly awaits clarity on the formation of a new government, with the future of the nation hinging on the success of these negotiations.
