Title: Intense Fighting Continues in Kursk; Neither Side Reports Conclusive Gains
Intense warfare persisted in the Kursk region on December 27, with neither Ukrainian nor Russian forces securing definitive advances, despite conflicting claims from both sides.
Ukrainian forces launched large-scale counteroffensives along a broad front from Korenevo to Sudzha, repelling a significant Russian mechanized assault, as reported by the Institute for the Study of War (ISW). Russian forces pressed forward near Sudzha, but neither side could claim clear victories.
ISW analysts noted that Ukrainian fighters claimed to have seized an unspecified position in the Russian region, though the latter’s claims of advances north of the villages of Rusaye and Nechayev could not be verified.
Russian troops initiated attacks south of Kruglenkoye (southeast of Korenevo), north of Martyinvka (northeast of Sudzha), and in forested areas near Sudzha. Geolocated footage from December 26 showcased Ukrainian forces fending off a Russian mechanized assault involving roughly a platoon, west of Mala Loknya (north of Sudzha).
Russian Z-bloggers asserted on December 26 and 27 that Ukrainian forces counterattacked along the Korenevo-Sudzha salient, particularly around the Leonidovka – Guevo line and in the Sudzha district’s forested regions.
ISW data indicates that Russia deployed operators from the 76th Airborne Division and units from the 34th and 80th Arctic Motorized Rifle Brigades to the Kursk front.
In other news, ISW previously revealed that Ukrainian forces struck the headquarters of Russia’s 4th Military Base in occupied Zaporizhzhia using HIMARS, eliminating at least three senior Russian officers. Simultaneously, Ukrainian warriors conducted another successful operation behind enemy lines in the Zaporizhzhia region.
