The CMA CGM Foundation and Happy Hearts Indonesia officially inaugurated the YASPI Education Foundation in North Jakarta, according to a recent announcement from CMA CGM. The educational complex welcomes nearly 700 students ranging from primary to high school levels. Ikram Ghazali, General Manager of CMA CGM Indonesia, and Sylvia Beiwinkler, CEO of Happy Hearts Indonesia, attended the opening event.
Renovations and Upgrades at the North Jakarta Complex
According to the project details, the extensive renovation effort transformed the school into a safe, functional, and inspiring learning environment. Workers refurbished six classrooms, fifteen lavatories, a teachers’ room, and a computer laboratory. Crews also constructed an additional classroom and created a new library utilizing a repurposed shipping container. Sylvia Beiwinkler, CEO of Happy Hearts Indonesia, stated that students previously studied in conditions that hindered their potential, noting that the bright upgraded classrooms and unique container library give children a real chance to thrive.
Expansion of the Long-Term Partnership in Indonesia
This project marks the third school renovated through the ongoing partnership between the CMA CGM Foundation and Happy Hearts Indonesia, a non-profit organization focused on improving education in underserved areas since 2024. The first two completed locations—SMP Tri Guna Bhakti and SMP Bina Karya in Surabaya—currently provide improved learning conditions for nearly 800 students. Ikram Ghazali, General Manager of CMA CGM Indonesia, noted that the partnership looks forward to completing a fourth school, which will extend the total impact to 1,600 children.
The next phase of the initiative involves completing the renovation of MTS El Nur Kasysyaf, also located in North Jakarta. That school is scheduled to open in the coming months and will welcome around 100 middle school students. Beyond infrastructure work, CMA CGM Group staff members contribute year-round by volunteering, assisting with renovations, and organizing reading sessions and sports activities for the children.
Teacher Training and Future Community Impact
Alongside the physical building updates, a three-year training program is being implemented for teachers and staff at each school. According to project outlines, this program concentrates on financial and management skills aimed at enhancing teaching quality, ensuring school sustainability, and strengthening overall administration. Organizers expect these combined efforts to positively impact more than 6,000 community members across Surabaya and Jakarta in the coming years. CMA CGM has operated in Indonesia for more than 25 years, maintaining 8 offices and employing over 500 staff members.
