A horrific bus accident occurred near the E10 highway in Hadsel municipality, Northern Norway, leaving at least three people dead and four critically injured. The accident involved a bus traveling from Narvik to Svolvær, with approximately 58 passengers on board.

Eye Witness Account

Fredriksen, a driver behind the ill-fated bus, witnessed the terrifying scene unfold. "We saw the bus drive straight on, unable to navigate a sharp turn. It ended up in the lake Åsvatnet, zlich and unstable, skirting the edge of the icy water," he recounts.

Fredriksen courageously sprang into action, jumping out of his car and rushing towards the imperiled bus. His wife promptly called the emergency services. "It was a gruesome sight. I knew this wasn’t going to end well," he recounts, still haunted by thevision.

Rescue Efforts

Numerous private individuals arrived at the scene before emergency services, lending a helping hand. They shattered bus windows and assisted passengers to safety.

Yngvar Gustavsen, another early responder, described the chaotic scene to Bladet Vesterålen, "The bus was tilted, half-submerged in the water. It was a nightmare, unlike anything I’ve ever seen."

Gustavsen immediately alerted the emergency services and, along with other volunteers, provided warmth and comfort to the injured using their personal vehicles.

Emergency Response and Aftermath

Lars Nedrevåg, the red cross leader in Northern Norway, praised the quick thinking and actions of the civilians at the scene. "They made a significant difference in the initial phase," he told VG.no.

Three people have been confirmed dead, and four are critically injured. The national road administration temporarily closed the road due to the accident, diverting traffic.

The accident is under investigation, and police are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.
