Breaking: Mazelen Epidemic in Northern Morocco Claims First Life
In a grim turn of events, an ongoing mazelan epidemic in Northern Morocco has resulted in the first fatality. A young girl in Tetouan has succumbed to the virus, marking a somber milestone in this public health crisis.
The mazelan epidemic in Northern Morocco has been a source of concern for months. Prior to this latest development, two lives were lost in Chefchaouen, and 70 cases were reported in the M’diq-Fnideq province. Now, the epidemic is spreading to Tetouan, where the first victim is a young girl from the region. The director of the regional hospital, Saniat R’mel, confirmed the sad news and added that elderly individuals have also been affected.
"The biggest challenge is that patients tend to seek medical help only when their condition has deteriorated," the director revealed in an interview with Hespress. "In the initial stages of the disease, expensive injections are required, which many poor families cannot afford."
Experts attribute the outbreak to vaccination shortcomings, with the director describing the situation as "worrisome." A nation-wide vaccination campaign targeting children under 18, organized by the Ministry of Health from October 28 to November 17, aimed to combat this very issue by administering vaccines against various infectious diseases, mazelan included.
As the region grapples with this public health issue, health officials urge residents to take necessary precautions and seek medical help promptly at the onset of symptoms. The collective effort of the community is crucial in curbing the spread of this epidemic and preventing further loss of life.
