Driver Causes Wreckage at Rotterdam-IJsselmonde Intersection, Flees the Scene
A driver left a scene of chaos Tuesday afternoon, causing substantial damage at a busy Rotterdam-IJsselmonde intersection. The incident has left authorities searching for the culprit and motorists astonished.
The crash occurred around 3:30 PM on a drizzly afternoon, snarling traffic at the intersection of the A15 and A20 highways. Eyewitnesses reported a vehicle traveling at high speed lost control, colliding with at least three other cars and a light pole.
"One moment everything was normal, the next, there was this deafening crash," said Hans de Vries, a local resident who witnessed the incident. "I’ve never seen anything like it."
The driver, who has not been identified, abandoned their vehicle and fled on foot. Police have launched a manhunt but have yet to make any arrests.
Emergency services arrived swiftly, attending to minor injuries among the other drivers involved. However, the damage to vehicles and infrastructure was extensive, with estimates suggesting repairs could take days.
"These types of incidents are incredibly frustrating," said a spokesperson for Rotterdam’s traffic management department. "Not only does it cause significant damage, but it also disrupts traffic flow at a crucial intersection."
