An Indonesian criminal network has been dismantled following the trafficking of at least 24 to 34 infants through fraudulent adoption schemes, according to reports from De Telegraaf, NOS, and NU. Nineteen individuals were convicted for their roles in the operation, which utilized falsified documentation to move children from Indonesia to Singapore.

The network operated by exploiting the legal frameworks surrounding adoption to mask human trafficking. According to NOS, the ring successfully trafficked dozens of infants before authorities intervened.
The case exposes how traffickers manipulate “sham adoptions” to bypass international oversight, turning a humanitarian process into a commercial enterprise.
Sentencing and Legal Consequences
The Indonesian judicial response has resulted in significant prison terms for the convicted members of the ring. According to NU, the sentences reflect the severity of the charges, which include human trafficking and the falsification of official documents.
