Cycling: Paris-Nice won by the German Schachmann

The only sporting event held in France this weekend, the Paris-Nice cycling race was won on Saturday by Maximilian Schachmann (Bora-Hansgrohe). Attacked in the last climb, the German champion resisted to keep first place overall, a few seconds ahead of Tiesj Benoot (Sunweb). He succeeds Egan Bernal.

Schachmann is the fifth German runner to register his name after Rolf Wolfshohl, Andreas Klöden, Jörg Jäksche and Tony Martin, the last to win in 2011.

In solo, Colombian Nairo Quintana (Arkea-Samsic) won the seventh stage of the “Race to the Sun” in La Colmiane station, which ended a day earlier than expected. It is the last cycling race for the international peloton before a break of an unknown duration due to the coronavirus pandemic.
