Significant Weather Changes Ahead: Snow and Freezing Conditions Expected
Article:
Prepare for a shift in weather conditions as announced by meteorologist Peter Yanakov. The change begins tomorrow evening, with rain turning into snow in Northwest Bulgaria, and potential ice formation along the Montana-Vidin line expected. Road users are advised to monitor temperature drops.
Friday: No heavy fog is anticipated. However, visibility below 100 meters poses a risk for motorists. Bulgarian air traffic controllers have been notified.
Saturday: Colder temperatures will prevail in Western and Northern areas, leading to a 1-2 cm snow accumulation.
Sunday: Snowfall is forecasted primarily in the southern regions, with the possibility of 15 cm in the mountains. Temperatures will range between 2-5°C, with around 2°C expected in Sofia. Snow and rain are predicted, potentially causing mobility issues in Southwest Bulgaria.
Mountain tours are best suited for Saturday, notes Yanakov, who also points out that mid-January average temperatures are warmer in the mountains.
Next Week: Expect below-freezing temperatures (-1°C to 4-5°C) throughout the week.
Monday and Tuesday: Widespread snowfall, with accumulations exceeding 20 cm, especially in Black Sea regions. Expect 2-3 cm of snow here as well.
Wednesday: Warmer temperatures return, mainly in Dobrudja, extending into the rest of the country.
Mist will not be a constant feature, but visibility reductions are expected due to snowfall and higher humidity.
Yanakov anticipates clean air penetration into Sofia today and tomorrow, helping to clear air pollution in lower layers.
