Breaking the Binary Theatre Festival Schedule and Leadership Transition
The broader fifth annual Breaking the Binary Theatre Festival runs from October 5 through October 11 at The Susan & Ronald Frankel Theater, located within the Robert W. Wilson MCC Theater Space. The festival focuses on producing works created and developed by transgender, non-binary, and Two-Spirit+ (TNB2S+) theatre artists. Full programming announcements are expected in the coming weeks.
Following the conclusion of the festival, founder George Strus will step down as artistic director of Breaking the Binary Theatre in December, according to a public statement released by Strus. New leadership and formal succession plans will be announced later this year.
“For the past five years, it has been the honor of my lifetime building this organization from the ground up with thousands of artists, supporters, and audience members,” Strus said in a statement.
According to Strus, the organization has paid out more than $1,000,000 to over 600 TNB2S+ artists since launching its inaugural festival in July 2022.
