Dassault’s Falcon 10X: Redefining the Ultra-Long-Range Business Jet
Dassault Aviation unveiled its latest innovation, the Falcon 10X, aiming to set a recent standard in the ultra-long-range business jet market. Presented on March 10th at its Mérignac facility in France, the aircraft boasts the largest cabin in its class and a focus on both comfort and extended range capabilities.
A Cabin Designed for Global Travel
The Falcon 10X, measuring 33.4 meters in length with a cabin exceeding 16 meters, prioritizes passenger experience. The spacious interior is designed to cater to both business and leisure travelers, offering a comfortable environment for long-haul flights. The aircraft’s endurance allows for non-stop travel over 13,890 km – for example, from New York to Shanghai – without the need for refueling stops.
“With this aircraft, you can go to the other side of the world, from New-York to Shanghai without stopping while sleeping and working without being dependent on a stopover,” explained Dassault Aviation CEO Eric Trappier.
Blending Commercial and Military Expertise
Dassault is leveraging its expertise across both commercial and military aviation with the Falcon 10X. The cockpit design incorporates technology from the Rafale fighter jet, benefiting from shared research and development efforts. This integration enhances safety and operational efficiency. According to Sébastien Dupont de Dinechin, a test pilot on the project, “It is of absolute safety because there are many safety elements that come from the Rafale, a very demanding combat aircraft and its improvements over the last twenty years.”
The company is as well exploring potential military applications for the aircraft, citing its size and capacity for carrying electronic equipment. Dassault already collaborates with the military through its Rafale program.
Targeting Key Markets and Expanding Production
Asia and the Pacific region are identified as key target markets for the Falcon 10X. Dassault aims to attract customers with the jet’s high-finish features, and capabilities. The company has invested in a new 26,500 square meter hangar dedicated to the Falcon 10X’s manufacturing and final assembly.
Development of the project began in 2018, continuing through the COVID-19 pandemic. The project has led to the hiring of thousands of workers over the past three years.
Certification and First Flight
The Falcon 10X is currently undergoing certification, a process that Dassault anticipates will grab approximately a year. The first flight is expected to take place over Aquitaine, France, before the end of March. Following certification, the aircraft will embark on a global tour to showcase its capabilities to potential buyers.
While the price remains confidential, early indications suggest strong demand, with reports indicating at least four orders already in place.
