Celine O’Donovan (née Hanberry), formerly of Loughrea, Co. Galway, died peacefully on Saturday, February 7th, 2026, in her 95th year. She passed away surrounded by family, following a short stay at the Galway Hospice where she received care from the Hospice staff.
A Life Remembered
Celine was predeceased by her husband, Michael (originally of Ayle, Oola, Co.Tipperary) and her parents, Patrick and Ann Hanberry. She is also remembered by her brothers, Brendan, Albert, and Gerard, who preceded her in death.
She is deeply mourned by her daughters, Orla and Celine, and her son, Gerard. Also surviving are her son-in-law Ray, daughter-in-law Sheila, and grandchildren Aoife, Eoin, Ross, Siobhán, Conor and Ben, as well as numerous nephews, nieces, relatives, neighbours and friends.
Funeral Details
Celine will lie in Repose at the O’ Flaherty Funeral Parlour, Munster Avenue (H91V1K8) on Wednesday, February 11th, 2026, from 3.30 p.m. Removal to the Church of Christ the King, Salthill, will take place at 5 p.m.
The Requiem Mass will be celebrated for Celine on Thursday, February 12th, 2026, at 11.00 a.m. Following the Mass, she will be laid to rest with her husband, Michael, in Rahoon cemetery. The Mass will be livestreamed at https://mcn.live/Camera/christ-the-king-church-salthill.
The family has requested that, if desired, memorial donations be made to the Galway Hospice. An online Book of Condolence is also available.
Attendees are advised to approach the funeral parlour entrance on foot from Fr. Burke Park. Street parking is available on Fr. Griffin Road, Claddagh, Henry Street and Sea Road, though parking on Munster Avenue may be demanding due to ongoing road works. Car parks are within walking distance at The Claddagh Church, Spanish Arch and Mill Street.
Road works are also reported in the vicinity of the Church in Salthill.
