Gary (Guf) Mooney, a resident of Hennessy’s Road, Waterford, passed away peacefully on April 23, 2026. He died in the care of the staff at the Medical 4 unit of University Hospital, Waterford, surrounded by his family.
Community and Family Loss
Mr. Mooney, who was formerly employed by Greenstar, is survived by a wide network of family and friends. He is sadly missed by his fiancée, Eva, his father, Mikey, and his children, including sons Dylan, Michael, and Cameron, and daughters Megan and Jamie-Lee.
His family circle also includes step-daughters Michelle, Margaret, Pamela, Julie, Rebecca, and Samantha, as well as his grandchild, Kai. He is further survived by his brothers Michael, Craig, Brian, and Jake, his sister Lorraine, and several nephews and nieces.
Funeral Arrangements and Services
The family has announced that the house will remain private at all times. Reposing will take place at Thompson’s Funeral Home on Barrack Street, Waterford, on Sunday, April 26, from 3:00pm to 5:00pm.
Vigil prayers and the Rosary are scheduled for 4:30pm on Sunday. On Monday, April 27, a funeral cortege will walk from Thompson’s Funeral Home to Ballybricken Church.
The Requiem Mass is set for 10:30am on Monday, followed by burial in Kilbarry Cemetery.
Memorial Contributions
The family has requested that flowers be limited to family members only. But, donations may be made to the Irish Cancer Society if desired.
