Michael O’Keeffe, a retired Physics and Chemistry Lecturer at South East Technological University (S.E.T.U.) and former employee of the Met Office, passed away peacefully on January 24th. He was a resident of Pinehurst, Glenville, Dunmore Road, and formerly of Griffith’s Place, Waterford.
A Life Dedicated to Education and Science
Mr. O’Keeffe’s career spanned both academia and meteorology. He dedicated years to teaching Physics and Chemistry at S.E.T.U., shaping the minds of future scientists. Prior to his work in education, he was associated with the Met Office, contributing to the understanding and forecasting of weather patterns.
He was predeceased by his mother Bridie, father John, brothers Charlie and Anthony, sister-in-law Margaret, and niece Brigid. Mr. O’Keeffe is survived by his sister Caroline and brother-in-law Noel, as well as numerous nieces and nephews: Fiona, Bernice, Charlotte, John Paul, Colin, Michael, Anthony, Alan, and Andrew. He is also remembered fondly by his gran-nieces and nephews – Rachael, Vanessa, Sarah, Grace, Holly Jane, Rosie, Daniel, Danny, Charlie, and Lily – along with extended family, cousins, neighbours, and his dear friend Angela.
Funeral Arrangements and Memorials
Reposing will take place at Tom Hennessy’s Funeral Home, Johnstown, Waterford (X91 FW4A) on Tuesday, January 27th, from 5pm to 7pm. A Requiem Mass will be held at St. Joseph & Benildus Church, Newtown, on Wednesday, January 28th, at 10.30am, followed by burial in St. Killian’s Cemetery, Ferrybank.
