Sheila Newell, formerly of Gowlan, Blacklion, Co. Cavan, passed away peacefully on April 22nd, 2026. She was in the care of the staff at The Galway Hospice and was surrounded by her family at the time of her death.
Family Legacy and Remembrance
Sheila is survived by her husband, Martin, and her children: sons Garry and Martin, and daughter Clodagh. She also leaves behind son-in-law Noel, daughter-in-law Eileen, and Garry’s partner Aisling.
The family includes seven grandchildren: Marty, Dylan, Darren, Annie, Tara, Jane, and Jason. Sheila is also remembered by her brother, Garry McCorry, along with an extended network of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
She was predeceased by her parents, Gerald and Mary McCorry, as well as her sister Geraldine and her brother John-Francis.
Funeral Arrangements and Services
Reposing will seize place at St. Pio’s Room within the Church of the Sacred Heart, Westside, Galway (H91 E781), on Friday, April 24th, starting at 5:00pm. This will be followed by a removal into the church at 6:30pm.
The Requiem Mass is scheduled for Saturday, April 25th, at 10:00am. Following the service, the funeral will proceed to Rahoon Cemetery (H91 XW62).
For those unable to attend in person, the Funeral Mass will be live-streamed via catholic-church-of-the-sacred-heart – MCN.
