Minister of Defense Suggests Ukraine May Have to Compromise Territory
Suggesting a grim reality, Robert Kaliňák, the Minister of Defense of Slovakia, hinted that Ukraine might need to surrender part of its territory in the ongoing conflict with Russia. Speaking in a Sunday broadcast of the political talk show V politike on TA3, Kaliňák expressed his views, which were reported by the European Truth outlet, citing the official news agency of Slovakia, TASR.
Kaliňák asserted that Slovakia’s interests lay in an immediate cessation of hostilities and the establishment of a preventing a ceasefire followed by peace talks. However, he emphasized that the fate of Ukraine’s post-war borders was less important than determining the country’s future form and structure.
"Ukraine may not fully realize that it will always share its longest border with the Russian Federation, rather than being nestled between Germany and Switzerland," Kaliňák stated, hinting at the likelihood of territorial concessions. This statement comes in the wake of similar views expressed by the President of Slovakia, Peter Pellegrini, who had earlier suggested that Ukraine should make territorial concessions for peace. Additionally, the Prime Minister of Slovakia, Robert Fico, had previously predicted a "second Munich" for Ukraine, suggesting that it could lose territory and become a victim of major powers.
