Title: Grieving Family Demands Justice as Fatal New Year Crash Claimed Three Lives in Pekanbaru
The New Year dawned with tragedy for a family in Pekanbaru, Riau Province, as they lost three loved ones in a gruesome road accident along Jalan Hang Tuah. The family, still grappling with the loss, has demanded stringent punishment for the perpetrator.
In a somber scene, hundreds of mourners gathered to pay their respects as Anton Sujarwo (38), his wife Afrianti (42), and their 10-year-old son, Aditio Aprilio Anjani, were laid to rest at the Tampan Public Cemetery. The family had been returning from a visit to their ailing relative in Lirik, Indragiri Hulu, to celebrate the New Year.
Rosnan, a relative who was away in Pelalawan when the accident occurred, expressed his shock at receiving the devastating news. "They were only going to visit Afrianti’s mother, who is ill," he lamented.
The family now faces the daunting task of caring for the couple’s surviving child, who was not with them during the fateful trip. It is likely that the child will be under the care of their grandmother or other relatives.
The catastrophic incident occurred when a speeding Toyota Calya, driven by Antoni Romansyah (44) under the influence of narcotics, veered onto the wrong side of the road, smashing into the family’s motorcycle. The force of the impact was so great that it also collided with another motorcycle, leaving two people injured.
The family, along with the wider community, has called for justice, urging authorities to impose the harshest penalty on Antoni and his accomplices. "We hope that the perpetrator is punished to the fullest extent of the law," Rosnan said, speaking on behalf of the bereaved family.
