Coal Transport Train Derails near Batantovci, Causing Significant Damage
A derailment earlier today of four coal-carrying train wagons near Batantovci has resulted in substantial material damage, according to a report by BTA. Batantovci Mayor Radосуlav Petrov shared that a large quantity of coal was spilled onto private property near the railway track in the "Andreyana" district, also damaging a nearby structure.
Petrov explained that the area is hard to access due to the derailment, which has also affected the power lines and railway signals. Efforts are underway to clear the debris and restore normal operations. However, it may take up to a week to fully repair the damage.
For the time being, train traffic along the international line has been halted, with bus services operating hourly from Batantovci station to Radomir, Dupnitsa, and Kюsten Dil. Petrov praised the quick response of the Bulgarian State Railways (BDЖ) management team, who he said were on-site swiftly to address the situation.
"Fortunately, there have been no casualties, but the aftermath is quite severe," Petrov added.
