Des Moines Performing Arts (DMPA) is preparing to sell tickets for its upcoming Broadway season, with modern President and CEO Monica Holt offering a personal guarantee: “If someone can’t find something they’re interested in, come talk to me directly.”
New Leadership, Familiar Season
Holt joined DMPA in January, bringing with her a 16-year tenure at the Kennedy Center, where she served as senior vice president of artistic planning. She inherited the 2026-2027 Broadway season, as most tours are booked years in advance.
Holt expressed enthusiasm for her new role, stating, “How lucky am I? It’s such a gift to come into an organization at this time of year.” She is already looking ahead, planning smaller performances and community events across DMPA’s venues, as well as the Willis Broadway Series for 2027-2028.
DMPA will continue its participation in the Independent Presenters Network, an investing group that facilitates booking national tours. Currently, DMPA’s season subscriber base numbers approximately 13,500 – a figure larger than the population of Norwalk, Iowa, but smaller than that of Grimes, Iowa.
Holt affirmed DMPA’s commitment to broad appeal, stating, “We say ‘there’s something for everyone’ a lot. But there’s actually something for everyone.”
